In early October, China’s national flag flew above the country’s registered church buildings as this year marks the 71th founding anniversary of the PRC.

Yesterday, China Christian Council & Three-Self Patriotic Movement held a national flag-raising ceremony at Shanghai Holy Trinity Cathedral. Rev. Xu Xiaohong, chairman of TSPM, said that the “five identities” (the identities of the great motherland; the Chinese nation; Chinese culture; the Communist Party of China and socialism with Chinese characteristics) raised by China’s President Xi Jinping were in accordance with the tradition of patriotism with love of religion.

On July 31, 2018, China's five major religious groups jointly issued a proposal calling for the national flag to be flown on religious premises.

More than 100 believers of Linyi Church in the country’s northern Shanxi Province attended the flag-raising ceremony on Oct 1, in which local religious officials participated.

On Oct 3, the choir and some staff of Wenfeng Church in Tongling County, Dongshan Town, Zhangzhou, Fujian went to practice patriotism in a mountain that has a connection with the Red Army.

All official churches in Kunshan, Jiangsu also conducted the ceremony on Oct 1.
