A Shanghai church was announced to suspend in-person Sunday services and gatherings as a local community was upgraded to a medium-risk area.

Shanghai Grace Church issued an announcement on its official WeChat account on January 14, stating that churchgoers of New Grace Church which was closed could attend the Sunday services of Grace Church with appointment cards or identity cards for registration at 7:30 am or 7:00 pm, when worshippers are fewer, as the seats are limited.

The announcement read that New Grace Church would be locked down from January 16 till further notice on the WeChat account, as No. 228, Yuyuan Road, Jing'an Temple Street, Jing'an District, was listed as a medium-risk area, according to Grace Church.

The elderly and weak believers are advised to stay at home to read the Bible, pray, and worship God.

It said if anyone who had been to a medium or high-risk area recently and therefore has a red or yellow itinerary code and health code, they were required be home quarantined, take the initiative to report it to the community, and seek medical attention if necessary, following personal protection measures.
