"An ALS patient, Zhang Wei, was on the move to send carrots to Xi'an. " The video released by a female Christian Yanzi became popular in the ancient city of Xi'an and areas of Shaanxi in January 2022.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Xi'an in early December 2021, all parts of the country had spontaneously donated money and materials to fight the pandemic in Xi'an.

Zhang Wei, who was suffering from ALS, usually could only walk with a makeshift wheel car. Once  wandering to Xi'an, he was taken in by a Christian woman surnamed Meng (called loving mother). Under the care of Meng, walking into the church, his life was renewed with his spiritual life growing rapidly. From then on, he was a conqueror through the Lord.

As the city of Xi'an was kind to him, with several male believers he raised 20000 yuan to buy 10 tons of carrots, planning to rent a car to Xi'an. Because of the pandemic, no one wanted to take this job. When the local government staff heard about it, they sent a car to help.

The car with 10 tons of carrots came to Xi'an, but it couldn't enter the city because of the strict pandemic prevention measures. Remembering that he had been in contact with the Xi'an Red Cross, he called the Red Cross staff who promised to help him. Xi'an Red Cross specially sent a car out of the city to transfer a car of carrots sent by Zhang Wei to its own car. Then the carrots were transported to Xi'an city and were sent to the front-line community most in need in the pandemic area.

"Increasingly frozen people" is called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in medicine. According to statistics, most patients died of respiratory failure after 3-5 years of onset because of muscle weakness.

On January 18, with no new local confirmed cases or new local asymptomatic infections, the city had achieved zero new cases in a day of single indigenous cases for the first time since December 12, 2021. 2050 local confirmed cases had been reported in the city in this round of pandemic, according to the website of Shaanxi Provincial People's Government
