"With the purpose of further enhancing the anti-cult awareness and ability of the majority of believers as well as creating a strong anti-cult atmosphere," a church in the Jiangsu Province on the eastern coast of China held an anti-cult lecture.

City One Church in Nantong, Jiangsu, held a lecture with the theme of “Advocating Science and Opposing Cults” on August 10. Liu Jianrong, director of the Nantong Anti-Cult Association, was invited to be the speaker. He elaborated on cults’ definition, characteristics, and types, and the means by which they confuse and win over the masses. Believers were also given brochures to further understand the characteristics of cults and have a deeper understanding of the harm, the church reported.

Liu said that in recent years, some cult organizations spread fallacies and heresies everywhere under the cloak of Christianity, trying to develop members among believers by deception, which seriously endangered social stability. Cult organizations often confuse and win over the masses by caring for and helping them, with the purpose of destroying families, obtaining property by deception, destroying lives, and disturbing society.

Combining the cases around him, the speaker set people thinking with a large number of shocking pictures and video materials, hoping they would oppose cults and remind their relatives, friends, and neighbors not to fall for cults. They were required to report the cult behaviors in time and not to listen to, believe, spread, or participate in any of them. A good social atmosphere of resisting and opposing the cults needed to be built to eradicate the breeding soil of the cult, the speaker added.

What’s more, it was said the church would carry out long-term anti-cult publicity activities. Believers have expressed that they would consciously resist cults with practical actions and participate in anti-cult work to maintain religious and cultural security and social stability.
