Warner Bros' "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" made a stunning debut in China on Friday as it raked in more than 190 million yuan at the box office. 

According to film and ticketing platform Maoyan, the movie gotten 80 million yuan on its first day in Chinese theaters.

The movie stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Jude Law and Johnny Depp and focuses on the story of magizoologist Newt Scamander as he tries to stop the divisive wizard leader Gellert Grindelwald under the request of his former teacher Albus Dumbledore.

The movie is a spinoff to the 2016 movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and a part of the Harry Potter universe written by J.K. Rowling, focusing on the events 75 years ago.

The new movie is rated 7.8 on Maoyan and it is expected that its box office sales would reach 564 million yuan as the days progress.
