For couple of years, people have been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day however, skipping breakfast is not a bad idea after all.

Tim Spector, a professor of Genetic Epidemiology  at King's College in London disclosed there are not enough studies to back up the fact or now can be called myth that skipping morning meals may lead to obesity.

"Studies showing a link between obesity and missing the meal are biased by the bad habits of many breakfast skippers. "We know they are more likely to be less well-educated and ignore health advice, eat less fibre, smoke and avoid sports. All of which can lead to obesity and poor health regardless of breakfast," he told in a report.

The London professor claimed that in six random studies he conducted just recently, four of the studies found that people who skipped breakfast and who ate less actually lost weight in the long run.

According to him, the Mediterranean diet which is composed of two meals only after drinking a cup of coffee in the early morning is the ideal and best diet for people who are trying to lose weight.

Other people were skeptic about the idea as some children may not be productive at all in their school if they follow this diet. Spector agreed with them and believed that further investigation and study should be carried out to identify if this case is true. He added that the benefits of breakfast may be simply because of genes and personal preference, too.

"The studies we've done with twins at King's College London have shown a clear gene influence on whether you are a morning person or an evening person. And these body-clock rhythms undoubtedly affect the times we prefer to eat.So we should probably let our bodies guide our choice of having breakfast, rather than dubious studies and dogma," the expert explained.
