Lady Gaga's recent meeting with the Dalai Lama has earned the ire of government officials in China, with the Communist Party issuing specific instructions to ban the singer and her entourage from ever stepping in the mainland.
The 19-minute meeting posted on the official social media page of the "Born This Way" singer saw the two influential people talk about issues like mental health and meditation.
According to The Guardian, in retribution, the Chinese government has released orders for state-controlled media like newspapers the Global Times and People's Daily and state broadcasters CCTV and Xinhua to condemn the meeting along with directives to websites, download servers and streaming services to stop the distribution of her music.
Chinese territory Hong Kong has also criticized the Dalai Lamas' campaign for greater autonomy from Beijing's control in what the government views as "separatist."
"The purpose of his visits and activities in other countries is just to promote his proposal for Tibetan independence," the city's spokesperson said. "We hope that people from the international community can be fully aware of his true colours and nature."
This is not the first time that China banned musicians from entering the country after they either met with the controversial Tibetan leader or spoke in support of calls for independence for Tibet. Beijing previously banned Oasis, Maroon 5, Bjork, Patty Smith, Blur and recently, U2.
In other news, the singer whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta has confirmed that she will be coming back to the sixth season of "American Horror Story" after showrunner and executive producer offered a role for her in the upcoming iteration of the popular gothic horror show, E! Online News reported. So far, only she and Angela Bassett have signed on to return
However, she has not offered a clue as to what extent she will be involved in the series.
"I can't promise you how or when, or anything like that," Gaga said.
