One of the most popular prayers we have is the serenity prayer. This prayer was written by Reinhold Neihbuhr. It was used in sermons and Sunday school group and studies.

Serenity Prayer - Full Version (composed in 1940s)

God grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world

As it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make all things right

If I surrender to His Will;

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life

And supremely happy with Him

Forever and ever in the next.

Amen.

3 Truths about Serenity according to the Bible

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change."

When your life is not going the way you planned it, we sometimes try to work harder to control everything and everyone around us. Some just do the opposite and give up the situation or person.

Accepting God's control or plan for our lives is the only way to find peace in situations we cannot control. We may not always know God's plans but we know that He works through us and that He promises to bring peace when we are in chaos.

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" - Philippians 4:7

 "Be still and know that I am God!" - Psalms 46:10

"the courage to change the things I can,"

Accepting Jesus as our Savior means we accept the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will be able to supply us with the courage to follow and act on Jesus' plans for us. Instead of doing everything all by ourselves, rely on the power of God for courage so we can move forward and achieve the things He had planned for us.

"and, the wisdom to know the difference."

Wisdom is a gift from God for people who asks for it. You can grow in God's favor and plan if you study the Bible and pray for His wisdom.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." - James 1:5
