On June 1, Children’s Day, Christian actress Sheren Tang shared on Sina Microblog that she was involved in a charitable event in Hong Kong.

Practicing the teaching of “it is more blessed to give than to receive”, Tang cooked meals with her partner, then distributed box lunches to people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The “sharing meals with love” event was launched by the Caring For Children Foundation.

She said, “Bento lunches boxes mean a lot to us actors and actresses. It means that we have work to do; I remember that in my first years of acting, I was lucky to eat free lunch boxes every day, which helped me during my difficult financial situation. So when I learned that my task was to cook meals in a large pot and distribute them, I knew I should do it. I said ‘yes’ because I understand how much a meal matters to a poor person.”

She continued, “Actually I started to cook for my family when I studied at primary school. When my classmates were playing house, I went grocery shopping in a vegetable market after school. When I entered middle school, I was responsible for all the chores as my mother suffered from rheumatism. I cooked until I began working in the entertainment world.”

“A lunch box sells for 30 Hong Kong dollars. I believe you are capable of making donations to show your concern. Your heart not only supports more restaurants, but also provides warm food. I hope you who have money contribute and who are strong contribute labor to continue this expression of love. Our situation during the pandemic may not get better soon, but mutual support will warm people’s hearts. Doing good is what makes us the happiest. It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
