"God is faithful."

This statement is something we know and we believe. However if we pay close attention to how we say this statement in a different situation, it would be surprising to find out that it does not link to the truth of this powerful statement.

People say "God is so faithful" or "Wow, isn't God faithful?" in some particular conversation. Many times, we hear people say when good things or big life events happen.

When a friend gets engaged, she posted a picture with #Godisfaithful. Another friend gave birth to a healthy baby and the comment goes like: "God has been so faithful to you and your husband."

At first, we say these comments and statements are all correct and true. However, if we only say this statement when something great and important event happens, is God no longer faithful when things not go our way?

Is God no longer faithful when a woman who has been wanting to get married is still single? Is God being unfaithful to a wife who can't have a baby?

People have gotten so good at saying this statement without paying much attention to what this could actually mean. In this instance, it sounds right to say that God is faithful in different wonderful events and happenings but, actually to be faithful means to keep your promises.

This is where the problem lies. People tie God's faithfulness to the things that were never promised to us. God did not promise us children or marriage or a nice home or engagement or wealthy life.

In fact, God promised us with more beautiful things.

  1. God promised salvation to all who believe in His Son (Romans 1:16-17).

  2. God promised comfort in our trials (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

  3. God promised new life in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

  4. He promised every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3).

  5. God promised to finish the work He started in us (Philippians 1:6).

  6. He promised peace when we pray (Philippians 4:6-7).

  7. God promised to supply our needs (Matthew 6:33; Philippians 4:19).

These promises are honest and true. God is faithful and when he gives us things we did not ask, let us still thank Him for being kind to His children. God is faithful not because of the good things but He is faithful because He keeps His promises.
