All the Wrong Reasons

A friend once asked me "Why do you serve God?" and it got me thinking.

"Why am I serving God?"

We all have different reasons why we serve God.  Some of us wants to mainly glorify His name, bring Him back all the glory He deserves, while some are serving Him just for show, just to get that prayer request that he's been wanting for years.

Whatever our reason may be - may it be fickle or inspiring - we serve God because we are meant to do that.  Not because it will save us from our sins, no! Good works cannot take us to heaven, but we serve Him because we love Him.

However, it is just so sad to see people use God for all the wrong reasons.

Some go to church because they want something from Him, how sad is that?

Imagine this, you have a friend that only talks to you, hangs out with you whenever he needs something. All those late night chit-chats and going out was just because that person needs something from you.  Isn't that being a user or some sort?

What would you feel about that? Will you get angry? Or will you be happy?

The Bible says in 1 Samuel 12:24

"Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you."

We do not serve God out of fear, but out of love and with love come respect and with respect and love come sacrifice.

Thinking about how Jesus died for our sins in the cross will make us feel happy that we are serving someone who loves us more than anything else in this world.  Isn't it enough reason for us to serve Him with all our heart?

In 1 Corinthians 15:58, it said:

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."

We serve God not because of what we need, what we want or what others says.  We serve Him because He is our one true God.  And it's the least we can do.

It makes me sad that some people go to church and serve Him because they want something from Him.  Don't be like that.

Don't be the friend that only talks to you when he needs something, or the person who likes you because you are beneficial to him.

Be a person, a Christian, that serves God because what else can we offer to Him than our life?

Jesus sees through us and He knows if we are serving Him just for the benefit of us getting something from Him in return.

Serving God is a high calling, not everyone can serve Him but only a few does it.

1 Peter 2:9

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

When are we going to serve Him wholeheartedly?

Let us serve God with all the right reasonos, all the right intentions and all the right heart.
