First Chinese “Barth" Forum Held in Beijing

From May 10 to 12, 2019, the first-ever Chinese “Karl Barth" Forum was held in Beijing.

From May 10 to 12, 2019, the first-ever Chinese "Karl Barth" Forum was held in the School of Philosophy, Beijing Normal University. 

In commemoration of the 133th anniversary of Barth's birthday, the 100th anniversary of the First Letter to the Romans and the Tambach Lecture, the "Barth Forum"  included one-day English keynote speeches and a two-day Chinese forum. 

Prof. Dr. Günter Thomas of Bochum, Germany gave two speeches entitled, "The Year 1919: The Tambach Lecture and the First Letter to the Romans" and "Karl Barth's Thought on Culture". 

In the Chinese forum, nine scholars made statements about the great theologian, concerning Barth's actualistic ontology (dialectic between process and substance grammars), T.C. Chao and Karl Barth (a new contribution to Barth's reception in Chao), the comparison of Hegel's and Barth's theological dialectics, and so on. 

The speakers included Song Xuhong from Minzu University of China who lectured On Balthasar's "Seeing" and Barth's "Hearing", Qu Li, associate professor of United International College of Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University who gave the speech entitled Karl Barth on the Temporality and Trinity of Eternity, Han Yuexiang from Zhaoqing University who addressed The Free Spirits are Interlinked: A Casual Discussion on Barth and Hayek, Qu Xutong from Beijing Normal University whose speech was named A Post-Kantian Interpretation of Barth's Critique of Religion, Li Yi from Wuhan University who delivered the speech entitled The Different Fields of Vision of Barth and Eckhart on Natural Theology, and Zhao Weirong from Fudan University who shared Barth and Mozart: An Investigation into the Religious Roots of Mozart and His Music. 

Karl Barth was a Swiss Reformed theologian who is known for his landmark works, The Epistle to the Romans and Church Dogmatics.
