When Super Bowl Meets Lunar New Year, Who Dwarfs?

Drawing 111 million people tuning into the Super Bowl, it was a big celebration, but imagine six times that--more than 700 million watched China's five-hour long Lunar New Year TV gala this year.

The Super Bowl 50 took place on the same day when Chinese celebrated the Lunar New Year’s Eve and CCTV, China’s state broadcaster show it to the audience as a staple celebration with the Lunar New Year’s Gala of the state, too. This has been ongoing since 1980s. 

Super Bowl 50 on Sunday is an annual championship game of National Football League which is considered as the highest level professional football in US. This year, Denver Broncos won over Carolina Panthers with a score of 24-10. 

Super Bowl Sunday has become one of America's most cherished -- albeit unofficial -- national holidays, with families and friends gathered around the TV to celebrate the concussive communion of our biggest sporting spectacle. 

Since 1983, the Chinese Spring Festival Gala has been on broadcast on the eve of Chinese New Year since this time is when family members get together to bid goodbye to the last year and welcome together the new year. 

Super Bowl 50 on Sunday has set a whooping record of 114.5 million viewers while over 700 million televiewers tune in for the Chinese New Year Gala in China.

Both celebration is important for each country as it does uphold the country’s traditions and culture over the history. And with this, Super Bowl is a much-awaited event and considered as most influential in US as the Chinese New Year Gala in China.
