On February 8, 2018, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan's Hualien county, killing 17 people and leaving more than 270 injured as of Monday, according to China News Service. China's official press agency Xinhua News reported on Monday that nine visitors from mainland China were confirmed dead.

The Amity Foundation and its Taiwan partners, the Chinese Christian Cross-Strait Corporate Exchange Association and the China Sunny Young Care Association, distributed 200 woolen hats and scarves to victims relocated in a local elementary school on Feb 9.

Rev Paul Wei Ti-Hsiang, general secretary of the Christian Exchange Association, and Dr Tang Yui, executive director of the Sunny Young Association, said that people in temporary shelters needed warm clothes. Last Thursday they visited victims' families and injured tourists from the mainland, giving them condolence money on behalf of Amity.

One girl who received the supplies immediately put on the new cap and scarf, saying that the warm clothing looked beautiful.
