Both China and the European Union have reaffirmed their commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement on Monday, calling other signatories to do the same because the impact of the increasing global temperatures continues to worsen every year.
In their joint communique declaring their stance, both parties have also stressed that the deal proved that "multilateralism can succeed in building fair and effective solutions to the most critical global problems of our time."
The communique did not identify or criticize the United States, who left the agreement last year under the discretion of US President Donald Trump. After the US's withdrawal, both China and the EU became the major supporters of the agreement which aims to keep the global temperature increase to "well below" 2 degrees Celsius.
The two parties also stressed that they are committed to creating a mechanisms that would transfer $100 billion a year from richer to poorer countries in order to help them adapt to climate change. This aspect of the agreement has been the major problem for the US.
China and the EU also promise to work together to promote an effective solution to aviation and shipping emissions, as well as bolstering the carbon emissions trading.
