Hong Kong, Singapore included in Latest World's Most Liveable City List

Economist Intelligence Unit latest survey shows the cities from among the globe which is most liveable. Vienna, capital of Austria has been recorded as the most liveable city.

"While in the past couple of years, cities in Europe were affected by the spreading perceived threat of terrorism in the region, which caused heightened security measures, the past year has seen a return to normalcy," the EIU said on Tuesday.

"A long-running contender to the title, Vienna has succeeded in displacing Melbourne from the top spot due to increases in the Austrian capital's stability category ratings."

Melbourne was the most liveable city from 2011 to 2017 but it slipped to the second spot, followed by Osaka in Japan. Calgary in Canada came in fourth place and Sydney in Australia as the fifth most liveable city.

In terms of Asia, Hong Kong ranked 35th world most liveable city while Singapore is the 37th on the list.

According to a report, Hong Kong's ranking fell dramatically in 2015 due to the increasing fears of unrest as part of the so-called Umbrella Revolution.

Meanwhile, Singapore's score improved in their public healthcare category where the city-state achieved the highest possible score there is.

The world's most liveable cities is an informal name given to the cities surveyed based on their annual living conditions. The liveability rankings are constantly used by employers assigning hardship allowances as part of their job relocation.
