One school in Virginia made a unique decision this month to ban the use of songs mentioning "Jesus" for its annual Christmas Concert as part of their efforts to be "more sensitive" towards their diverse student body.

In the report of WWBT, the choir teacher at Robious Middle School said in an email to a parent asking about the change said "We had a few students who weren't comfortable singing a piece I have done many times in the past, but it is of a sacred nature and does mention Jesus."

Parents and groups have been divided over the issue and have shared their position online or through the media.

This is not the first time public schools in the United States have caused a debate on how they reference Christmas in general and how Jesus' birth came to be. In December 2016, for instance, a judge in Texas ordered a school district to restore "A Charlie Brown Christmas" display after it had been taken down by administrators because it featured a Bible verse.
