On Sunday, the US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said that he sees March 1 as a "hard deadline" for both the US and China to reach a deal on trade and if it fails, new tariffs will be imposed.

During his interview for the CBS Show "Face the Nation", Lighthizer talked about President Donald Trump's decision to postpone the tariff imposition until March 1 while negotiations continue between the two countries. He said "As far as I am concerned, it is a hard deadline. When I talk to the president of the United States, he is not talking about going beyond March."

"The way this is set up is that at the end of 90 days, these tariffs will be raised."

Lighthizer is expected to lead the talks between the two countries, which was announced last week after both President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met during the G20 summit in Argentina.
