Katy Perry and Britney Spears both dropped their new singles on Thursday (July 14) evening, sparking speculation of a possible rivalry between the two pop stars. "Make Me," Britney Spears' collaboration with G-Eazy, will be the first single from her as of now untitled ninth studio album while Katy Perry's "Rise" will serve as the official anthem of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"Rise will be used by NBC during the network's Olympic coverage starting the opening ceremony in August 5. According to Billboard, however, Katy Perry will not be releasing it along with her highly anticipated fourth studio album. "This is a song that's been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite."

The last time both Katy Perry and Britney Spears had an album release was back in 2013 when Britney Spears released the album "Britney Jean" and Katy Perry promoted her third mainstream pop album "Prism," Entertainment Weekly reported.

Both Katy Perry and Britney Spears worked on the film "Smurfs 2" where Katy Perry voiced the character Smurfette and Britney Spears recorded the song "Ooh La La" for the animated film's official soundtrack.
