His Holiness Pope Francis and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill put aside differences for centuries to talk on a bigger subject which is to save Christians from persecution.
The pope and the Russian Orthodox patriarch first encounter happened at Jose Marti International Airport in Havana. "We are brothers." Claimed the Leader of the Catholic church while embracing his Christian fellow upon seeing him.
"Things are easier now." Was the response of the Russian Orthodox Patriarch that was overheard by many even with the clicking and numbers of camera flashes.
It was more than two decades ago before bringing the Pope and the Russian Patriarch together for the first time, and Pope Francis didn't mind the flight of almost 12 hours and months of negotiations to see Kirill.
Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill together signed a joint declaration showing the common value of both church.
"Thousands of victims have already been claimed in the violence in Syria and Iraq, which has left many other millions without a home or means of sustenance," they said.
Pope and Patriarch Kirill agrees that "Attempts to justify criminal acts with religious slogans are altogether unacceptable," adding. "No crime may be committed in God's name. Christian who died was called "Martyrs of our times" and they said they helped unite various churches "by their shared suffering."
The Pope make clear that the fate of the persecuted Christians was his mere reason for coming but simply to have meeting with the Patriarch.
The Pope was also quoted saying " it is clearer this is God's will"
The Pope since his election 3 years ago made it collaborative effort to heal the infraction between the Catholics and the Russian Orthodox Christians and said "I'll go wherever you want. You call me and I'll go" addressing it to Kirill in 2014.
