With 6 days left toward 2016 Presidential Election Day, Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton are working overtime to turn out voters. The surprise disclosure that agents from the FBI are taking a new look at Hillary Clinton’s email use lays bare, tensions inside the bureau and the Justice Department over how to investigate the Democratic presidential nominee.

650,000 emails were found on a laptop. Investigators believe that this laptop was used by former Rep. Anthony Weiner and his estranged wife Huma Abedin a close Clinton aide.

It is reported that underlying metadata suggests thousands of those messages could have been sent to or from the private server that Mrs. Clinton used while she was secretary of state, according to people familiar with the matter.

A minimum time of a week would be taken to determine whether those messages are work-related from the time Ms. Abedin served with Mrs. Clinton at the State Department; how many are duplicates of emails already reviewed by the FBI.

Reports show that it is increasingly unlikely that the review will be complete by Election Day, although FBI officials said there was a chance they could offer updates before Nov. 8.

The mood at the FBI is dark, and nobody is willing to predict what the coming days will bring, particularly if agents and analysts do not complete their review of Ms. Abedin’s Emails by Election Day. Officials said it would take something extraordinary to change the conclusion that nobody should be charged. But the absence of information has allowed festering speculation that the emails must be significant.
