On Monday, China said that the country hopes the nuclear deal with Iran remains active as a means to keep the peace in the region despite the pronouncement of a senior US official that President Donald Trump intends to decertify the agreement.

According to the official, who remained anonymous, said that Trump will be declaring a broader US strategy on Iran which would be more confrontational. Trump has been against the pact and Iran's behavior in the Middle East. In terms of the pact, Trump said it is an "embarrassment" and "the worst deal ever negotiated." He is also considering whether it does serve US security interests while working on the October 15 deadline to certify that Iran is complying with their end of the agreement.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in a press briefing on Monday that the Iran nuclear deal is seen by China as a good example on how the international community can solve something peacefully through diplomatic means. It is also playing a positive and important role in guaranteeing nuclear non-proliferation and maintaining the peace and stability in the Middle East.

She also said "We hope that the comprehensive Iran nuclear agreement can continue to be earnestly implemented."

Iran has spoken with regards to the nuclear deal and claimed that they will not be the first to violate the agreement as they have agreed to restrict their nuclear program to get the sanctions imposed to the country lifted to revive its economy.

If Trump fails to certify Iran's compliance to the deal, the US Congress has 60 days to decide whether they will reimpose the sanctions on Iran which were suspended as part of the deal. The international community, mainly those who have assisted the creation of the pact, are worried with the implications of Washington's intent to decertify the pact to the deal and to the community in general.

China and Iran have strong economic and diplomatic ties to one another and China has been instrumental in getting the 2015 nuclear deal in action.
