White House Chief of Staff John Kelly said on October 12 that United States should be concerned about the ability of North Korea in reaching the country with their ballistic missile. He also told the reporters with this cryptic message, saying that if the threat grows "beyond where it is today, well, let's hope that diplomacy works."
"The American people should be concerned about a state that has developed a pretty good ICBM capability and is developing a pretty good nuclear re-entry vehicle," Kelly said in his first White House press briefing since joining the administration earlier this year, as cited by CNN. "I would believe, I think I speak for the administration, that that state simply cannot have the ability to reach the homeland."
"Right now there is great concern about a lot of Americans that live in Guam. Right now we think the threat is manageable but over time, if it grows beyond where it is today, well, let's hope that diplomacy works," Kelly added.
Kelly also noted that Pyongyang is already developing a pretty good re-entry vehicle and that it is close to achieving a breakthrough for their missile program.
It can be recalled that North Korea and the Trump administration have exchanged verbal volleys for a couple of months as United States openly threatens the United States.
Trump also mocked North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, labeling him "little Rocket Man" and madman. He also promised that "fire and fury" will come if North Korea continues to threaten US.
"Our country has been unsuccessfully dealing with North Korea for 25 years, giving billions of dollars & getting nothing," Trump tweeted earlier this month. "Policy didn't work!"
North Korea has reportedly tested over a dozen missiles since February. Kim Jong Un has also noted to test missiles more than his father and grandfather combined.
