TORONTO, CANADA, August 4, 2020— Shadow of the Sun, a historical fiction novel to be released August 21, 2020 by Toviyahu Publishing—a division of Acts News Network (ANN), Inc.—“touches the soul in a most needed way,” says Lorna Dueck, former CEO of Crossroads Christian Communications, Yes TV, Tricorn Media, and TV host of Context: Beyond the Headlines. The novel, a vivid, historic portrayal of events during the WWII Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies, thrusts the reader into a first-hand experience of the impact of war on a young Dutch family.

To coincide with commemorations of the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII in the Asia Pacific (August 14, 2020), the book is available by pre-order. Timely for its message, “Shadow of the Sun draws us close into the drama of the unspeakably high price that has been paid for freedom and democracy,” says Dueck.

The story came to life through Marney Blom, a veteran Canadian journalist and TV reporter who served twelve years as the news director and Middle East foreign correspondent for ANN. It is the inspiring account of her own family's courage and unwavering faith in the face of unrelenting brutality and constant threat of death. Blom believes the tiny notes she stumbled across in 2013—love letters secretly hand-written by her grandfather, a POW assigned to forced labour on the Thai-Burma Railway of death, "... raises the spirit and gives hope at a time when the world is filled with fear and uncertainty."

"This is a gripping, page-turner and a story vividly and skillfully woven by their granddaughter, who has employed her grandfather's unsent letters, miraculously rescued and preserved," notes Wayne Hilsden, Co-Founder and President, King of Kings Community, Jerusalem.

Chris Mitchell, CBN News Middle East Bureau Chief writes, “Their crucible in the furnace of affliction—that reads like a movie—is a timely lesson to trust God even in the most desperate situation."
