DOCUMENTARY Documentary 'Retrospecting: The 500th Anniversary of the Reformation': Ep.03 'Unification After Prolonged Division, Division After Prolonged Unification' By Elizabeth Pan Leilei&Edward Wang XinJune 14th, 2022
Facing five centuries of the Reformation’s rise and fall, we must not forget its spirit! While the Reformation profoundly influenced China, Chinese classics also played a significant role in shaping the European Enlightenment that followed. The encounter and deep dialogue between Matteo Ricci and Xu Guangqi sparked a remarkable collision of Eastern and Western cultures. Shanghai, particularly Xujiahui, emerged as a bridge for this exchange, bearing witness to both the material and spiritual contributions of Christian civilization in the city. As churches gradually faded in Europe, a new phenomenon arose: a revival of humanity’s thirst for spirituality. This documentary takes you to the Abbey of Cluny, once home to the world’s largest church, and offers a closer look at the Taizé community, prompting a reflection on the future of Christian faith.

The documentaries are produced by Elizabeth Pan Leilei & Edward Wang Xin.
