To usher in the 55th Earth Day, which falls on April 22, Wuhan YMCA in Hubei conducted an activity where used batteries could be exchanged for green plants.

Nearly a hundred residents from the community participated in the event conducted on April 19, said Hubei TSPM.

The staff made registrations while educating participants about the pollution hazards of discarded batteries and how to categorize garbage. They answered residents' daily science questions and encouraged them to develop good habits in handling hazardous waste.

In just over an hour, over 50 pots of green plants were exchanged for more than 600 used batteries on the scene.
