At 9:05 am last Tuesday, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Dingri County in Shigatse City, Tibet, resulting in significant casualties and the destruction of numerous buildings.
Following the earthquake on January 7, the faith-based Amity Foundation swiftly initiated a relief response and launched crowdfunding initiatives on several online platforms to gather resources from various sources to support rescue efforts.
According to the foundation, by 12:00 am on January 10, 2025, a total of over 12 million yuan (including pledged but uncollected funds) had been raised through various channels. Relief supplies, including emergency food, heating materials, women's hygiene products, and child care items, have been delivered to Coguo Township, Quluo Township, and Nixia Township in Dingri County, Shigatse City. Additionally, care services have been provided to children in the affected areas.
At the same time, the Amity Foundation provided logistical and financial support to several civilian rescue teams that deployed to the disaster area to conduct rescue operations. The total expenditure for delivered and in-transit materials amounted to over four million yuan.
The Shanghai Agape Foundation reported that, after the earthquake, the Christian community in Shanghai swiftly responded to its social responsibilities. Various member organizations, including Shanghai CC&TSPM, Shanghai Putuo District CC&TSPM, Shanghai Jing'an District CC&TSPM, Shanghai Chongming District CC&TSPM, and Shanghai Qingpu District CC&TSPM, contributed a total of seven hundred thousand yuan through the foundation to aid rescue and post-disaster reconstruction efforts in the earthquake-affected areas of Shigatse, Tibet.
