On September 9, the China Committee on Religion and Peace (CCRP) held a symposium in Beijing to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, known in China as the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
According to the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Daily, the meeting reviewed President Xi Jinping's speech at the national commemoration and called on China's religious communities to promote the spirit of the War of Resistance, foster unity, and contribute to national development.
Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai, vice chair of the CPPCC and chair of CCRP, delivered a written address, urging religious leaders to remain steadfast, strengthen responsibility, and continue the patriotic tradition of religion in China. He emphasized turning the wartime spirit into motivation to face current challenges and promoting China's story of religion internationally to advance peace and development.
Several committee members recalled the historical role of religious communities during the War of Resistance, shared reflections on the recent address, and affirmed their commitment to advancing the Sinicization of religion, carrying forward patriotic traditions, and supporting global peace and development.
CCRP, founded in Beijing on July 2, 1994, is a national nonprofit organization with independent legal status, composed of representatives from Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism, and Protestantism. It focuses on international exchanges under the guidance of the CPPCC General Office and the Ministry of Civil Affairs. CCRP joined Religions for Peace (RfP) in 1994 and the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP) in 1996, serving as China's sole national representative.
