The Gospel Church in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, recently addressed a pressing community concern by installing four solar-powered streetlights in a nearby alley, improving safety for residents, particularly the elderly, who had struggled to navigate the dark path at night. The gesture was well-received by the local community and was covered by a local newspaper.
On February 19, a local newspaper column published an article highlighting the lack of streetlights in some lanes in the city. The article noted that the bumpy roads caused inconveniences for elderly residents. Rev. Dai Dianwei, head of Gospel Church, learned of the neighbors' difficulties and offered the church's assistance to resolve the issue. A team was dispatched to assess the area. It turned out that the lanes were narrow and winding, with disorganized wires, making it difficult to install the conventional streetlights. Considering the challenging situation and the urgent needs of the residents, solar streetlights were installed at the four corners of the street on February 24.
Ms. Guan Xiuzhen, a nearby resident, told the newspaper reporter, "My father is over 80 years old. Before the streetlights were installed, he often bumped into the walls when walking through here at night. Now, with the lights, we no longer have to worry about him traveling in the evening. This is truly a wonderful improvement for the residents."
Church staff who participated in the event also expressed their commitment to providing more charitable service in the future.
A post on the church’s official WeChat account said, “These streetlights not only light up their paths home but also brighten their hearts. This public service initiative has allowed the warm spirit of the Gospel Church to reach every corner of the community.”
