Liaozhong District CC&TSPM of Shenyang, Liaoning Province, where the September 18 Incident broke out, hosted a cultural gala on Wednesday to commemorate the 94th anniversary.

The September 18 Incident of 1931 began the 14-year-long war of resistance against the Japanese army.

At the Liaozhong District Church, the event also marked the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The gala was planned by Rev. Ren Chuanyu, chairman of the Liaozhong District TSPM, and jointly presented by the Liaozhong Retired Cadres Art Troupe and the Qunxing Song and Dance Troupe.

It opened with the sorrowful melody of "On the Banks of the Songhua River." The first chapter, "Remembering History," featured a medley of resistance songs reviving memories of shattered mountains and rivers and the nation's awakening. The second chapter, "Bloody Struggle," presented a dramatic recitation, a modern Peking opera, and a male vocal performance, weaving together a heroic picture of soldiers and civilians united against foreign aggression. The third chapter, "Creating the Future," brought the atmosphere to a climax with patriotic songs.
