Chinese moviegoers are in for a treat this month as they will be the first ones to watch the newest DC superhero film "Aquaman" as it is scheduled to make its debut this weekend, two weeks ahead of the December 21 North American release date.

"Aquaman" is the sixth film in the DC Extended Universe that is entwined with last year's films "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League." The former film became a great success in the box office and became a popular topic in mainstream media. The latter, meanwhile, is noted as the lowest-grossing DC film so far and has been criticized extensively.

The new film, directed by James Wan, is highly anticipated by both fans and critics alike as it focuses on the story of the half-human, half Atlantean Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa, who is destined to become King of Atlantis and face his brother Orm to save the world. It will also look into Aquaman's relationship with Mera, played by Amber Heard.

Also starring in the incoming Aquaman film are Patrick Wilson, who will play Ocean master Orm, and Nicole Kidman, who will play Arthur's mom, Atlanna.

Aside from China, the UK and Australia will also be seeing the movie ahead of the rest of the world as they both scored a December 14 release date for the film.
