From the night of August 7 to the early morning of August 8, Yuzhong County in Gansu Province experienced a short but intense period of heavy rainfall, triggering flash floods that caused severe casualties and property losses. As of August 10, the disaster had claimed 10 lives, with 33 people reported missing, reported China Daily.
Following the China's National Commission for Disaster Reduction's activation of a Level 4 emergency response on August 8, the faith-based Amity Foundation initiated its flood relief efforts in collaboration with local partners to assess needs, and to procure and transport essential supplies. That evening, the first batch of food staples arrived in Mapo Township, Yuzhong County. On August 9, toiletries, bottled water, electric blankets, and dredging tools were delivered to affected villages and resettlement sites in the county. The next day, disinfection materials, lighting equipment, hygiene products, and rain boots were distributed in Mapo Township.
Relief operations also continue in the disaster-affected regions of Beijing and Hebei. From August 8 to 9, food supplies, folding beds, beddings, rain gear, and headlamps were sent to resettlement sites and patrol teams in Hebei Province, while grain, cooking oil, vegetables, and carts being delivered to Beijing's flood-stricken area.
Meanwhile, the foundation is appealing for online donations through various platforms to support ongoing relief efforts.
