On Saturday, the Chinese parliament officially re-elected Xi Jinping as the country's president after the amendments made to the constitution regarding the removal of the presidential term limits last Sunday.

Xi was voted unanimously by the parliament and it was witnessed by journalists in the Great Hall of the People. It is also notable that almost the entirety of the hall was filled with the Communist Party's loyalist and he was voted without any votes against him.

Aside from Xi, the country's newest vice president was also voted unanimously and he is Wang Qishan, one of China's top anti-graft and corruption advocate and a known ally of President Xi. Upon the announcement of his win, Vice President Wang bowed twice and walked to President Xi to shake his hand.

Both Xi and Wang spoke only to pledge their allegiance to the constitution for their victory speech.

Li Keqiang also remains as the country's premier after being voted upon by a majority of the parliament, with two voting against him.

According to People's Daily's editorial posted in WeChat following the vote, Xi's re-election highlights that he is a "leader loved and respected by the people", similar to how Mao Zedong was seen by the people in his tenure.
