Construction is now being done by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architects' latest project which they believe is the world's third tallest building, the Wuhan Greenland Center.
The construction is done in the city of Wuhan in the Hubei Province and the building is expected to be as high as 636 m or 2,086 ft once it is finished. This height would allow the building to overtake China's current tallest building, the Walking Stick, once the building is finished.
The Wuhan Greenland Center would have 120 floors with 300,000 sq m worth of floorspace. Tenants would also vary as the floorspace would be divided between office and residential use with a Ritz Carlton Hotel taking up some of the spaces.
According to the architects, constructing the building is made difficult due to the wind pressure conditions in the city. In order to ensure that the Wuhan Greenland Center would withstand any condition, the body of the building will be tapered and possess a complex system of air vents to reduce wind resistance.
It is expected that sustainable technology would also be installed in the building in order to help water conservation. Outside the building, polished stainless steel fins and aluminum shading would reduce sun exposure to those within the building.
The construction is expected to be completed in 2017, becoming China's tallest building.
