On April 21, 2017, the American Boychoir continued its 2017 China Tour in Shanghai Oriental Art Center, after its debut performance in Beijing in April 20. The tour will go on in major cities like Xi'an, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Hong Kong.
Honored as the world top children's choir, the Boychoir presented music containing European-style Christian hymns and American soul music, under the leadership of Fernando Malvar-Ruiz, Litton-Lodal Music Director. They also performed African, Oceanian and Asian works. The songs included in the performance are Gloria (selections from) by Vivaldi, Domine Deus by J.S.Bach, Honour the Earth by Sarah Hopkins, Sky Song by Daniel Walker, George Gershwin Medley by Gershwin/Holcombe, Las Amarillas by Stephen Hatfield and Music Down in my Soul by Moses Hogan.
It is worth mentioning that there is a boy from Shanghai included in the choir. Two local children's choirs also joined in a corporate performance with the choir.
The tour marks the first time the choir came to China to celebrate its 80th founding anniversary, with the theme of "Around the World in 800 Years."
According to the choir's official website, the boychoir has long been "recognized as one of the finest musical ensembles in the country, dazzling audiences with its unique blend of musical sophistication, spirited presentation, and ensemble virtuosity. The Boychoir performs regularly with world-class orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and is often featured with such illustrious conductors as James Levine, Charles Dutoit, and Alan Gilbert. As an icon of American musical excellence, the Boychoir has been invited to sing for every sitting U.S. President since John F. Kennedy. Touring frequently at home and abroad as preeminent ambassadors, the American Boychoir spreads messages of beauty and hope through outstanding musical achievement."
