On April 11, 69 boxes, with around 100,000 RMB worth of medicine and over 280 bags of clothing, were sent to Longbao Town, Yushu Prefecture by Xining Grace Christian Church in Qinghai Province. Grace Church has been supporting the Yushu region with medicine and supplies since the 2010 Yushu earthquake.
According to Preacher Liu He, a fellow worker of the church, the Longbao town ministry is carried out between April and November every year. Low temperatures and extreme weather make carrying out the ministry unfeasible during other months.
The medicine in the most recent batch will be used by Longbao Medical Center. Patients from different villages see doctors there, as well as patients from the Tibet region, who go there for medical treatment every year. The medicine is estimated to last between three and four months. The clothing sent was from different churches, fellowships, and individuals collected since last winter. The clothing will go to various impoverished families and students in villages and towns.
The average altitude of Longbao and the surrounding villages is 4,300 meters above sea level. It is high and cold all year and most of the families are herdsmen who deal with material shortages. The medical and educational conditions are harsh and they lack clothing, books, medicine, stationary, and other basic supplies.
