"I hope you can take these with you when you serve the people in need."

Miss Luo, living in the Shiweitang Street in Guangzhou, Guangdong, donated 50 bags of rice from Harbin and 5000 masks to the service station before the Mid-Autumn Festival which falls on September 21, hoping that these materials would be delivered to the neediest people in the district.

A few days ago, the service station operated by the Guangzhou YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) has received donations of relief materials from many residents, who would like to provide basic pandemic prevention protection and life support for people in special difficulties in the street.

Over the past few days, 50 families with particular difficulties in the area have received holiday blessings and gifts after visits by social workers. From reception to distribution, they transferred the donation to each person in urgent need of help.

As one of the volunteers, a student born after 2005 with the surname of Zhou, visited the people in need with a social worker many times, seeing their difficult situation and urgent needs. After donating masks and oil rice last year, he again used his lucky money received as a Lunar New Year gift to buy 1,000 masks, which were contributed to the social work station on August 27, accompanied by his parents.

According to Zhang Qian, deputy director of the social work station, residents donated materials spontaneously because of their recognition of the hardship and lack of the people in need, and the professional services provided by social workers after they received volunteering service themselves in the community.
