When you try to enter the word "dating" to your Bible search tool, you cannot find anything about it. Is dating a relatively new concept?
We believe and we know that the Scripture consists of parables, situations and stories that could help us in our daily lives and phases of life, too. However, we cannot change the fact that there are some topics that are left untouched or does not have literally the Biblical perspective of it, like "dating." So, we can conclude that dating is a relatively new concept.
Though the Bible does not talk about dating, it does speak and reveals stories of love relationships, godly interactions and principles that can be applied on how an individual could date.
"For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first."(2 Peter 2:20 )
In this Bible verse, God teaches us to separate the world's view on dating and we must obey God's way.
says " Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?" (2 Corinthians 6:14-15)
According to the Bible, dating or courting is finding our lifetime partner. Our future partner needs to have the same desire toward Christ-likeness. It was even explained that we should not marry an unbeliever as it weakens the relationship between us and Christ which in turn compromises our morals and standards.
Matthew 7:7 says "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."
For those people who are single and cannot wait for the one destined by God for them, this verse is very ideal. God sets up to the better person who He thinks deserves us. Single individuals need to devote their time to their family and serve God. When the time comes, along with their prayer, God will provide them the partner they will truly deserve.
