Canaan Xiu apologized to the public for his false testimonies. He used to boast that he preached to Wen Jiabao, the former premier of China and convinced Wen to believe God. Xiu said that he used to be dumb and now he can normally speak because of the salvation of God. Now the time just comes to reveal the whole truth.
Other false testimonies were also popular among Chinese Christians. For example, Yang Liwei saw the glory of God in space. Some Christians even said that the shroud of Jesus and the holy grail of the last supper was found.
So many Christians just believed those obviously false rumors. They couldn't allow others to be suspicious of these rumors.
The Christians spread false information due to sense of inferiority. In recent years TV series about the anti-Japanese war has been popular in China. The Japanese invaders are described as either retarded or disabled.
However, if the Japanese soldiers really had problems with mental or body, how could they occupy most areas of China within such a short period of time?
The fundamental reason is that we are not confident about ourselves. We don't want to acknowledge that our opponents are strong. We cover our sense of inferiority by denying the advantages of our opponents.
Even if we are actually stronger now, the sense of inferiority is still rooted in our heart. We should establish a healthy mind. We should be neither humble nor pushy.
Christians who believe in false testimonies know they can't keep pace with the society and have no advantages in the secular world. They constantly create false testimonies to numb themselves because they feel relieved.
I know a preacher from Anhui Province. He graduated from high school and received a few years' education of theology. He always says that he used to debate on the train with the minister of education and made the minister speechless in the end.
People on the same journey with him said that he was sleeping from the beginning to the end. So the reason he bragged about the false experience was that he was not confident about his education. He thinks talking with well-educated people can prove his knowledge. Actually, most Christians who spread false testimonies think like him. They want to prove themselves to the society.
As Canaan Xiu said in the video, he felt that before the false testimonies thrive nobody in the church cared about his words. He was looked down on by the pastor in his church. However, the false testimonies have won him much fame and he was more popular in the church. Other Christians thought he was the angel of God.
Since the false information can lead to considerable benefits without any cost, many Christians who lack confidence in front of their neighbors and colleagues will choose to spread the false testimony. The color of celebrity will make them feel confident.
The mode of false testimonies is obvious. Both their enemies and friends should be strong so that they can be proven strong.
For example, some rumors said celebrities like Einstein and Wen Jiabao chose to believe in God in the end. Some rumors said that Muslims are going to occupy Europe and the whole continent is waiting for Christians' salvation. I even heard that the nuclear power plant is going to destroy the earth and the solution is at Christians' hand.
Muslim refugees continuously enter Europe. Some Christians are worried that the Muslims may someday occupy the whole Europe since Europeans have a birth rate of zero while Muslims like having a lot of children. They prayed to God and hoped God could turn back the situation.
Indeed, Christians need to wake up and do something in the real world. However, their logic is funny. It seems that Europeans will have no children and just wait for the occupation of Muslims. All in all, Europeans are dumb like donkeys.
We have ignored many social factors. The European church is reviving and the cultural exchanges always exist. The mode of thinking comes from our sense of inferiority. We had the illusion that we have shouldered the important task of saving European civilization.
On the other hand, some Christians relate a nuclear power plant to the destruction of the earth. They want to express that they are special prophets and special angels sent by God to save humans' civilization.
Why do Christians feel inferior?
We have accepted basic theology which is based on dualism for a long time. We overemphasized the difference between the secular world and the spiritual world. We are all sinners separated from God. We commit crimes because of our lust and desire. We shouldn't cling to the lure of secular world or live like a normal non-Christian. As Christians, we should stay pure in the spiritual world so that we will be saved by God. The pursuit of sanctity is the core logic of traditional churches.
In that case, Christians have no influence over the secular world. True religious life is just to cultivate pure spirits at home. So in other people's opinion, the Christians are freaks. My company has always been spreading such a rumor that a Christian colleague had her cancer cured and gave birth to a boy after praying to God. She was laughed at by many colleagues.
The Christians who pursue sanctity often feel inferior and less confident when they deal with neighbors and colleagues in the society. Sometimes we can't handle things according to the social normal pattern. As a result, we will be laughed at and ignored by some non-Christians.
On the one hand, traditional churches often teach believers to be humble. A believer is often taught to repent his sin. As time passes by, believers will feel like they don't deserve anything.
On the other hand, most of the doctrines of the church are theological critiques, boring law and taboos. There is little guidance of practical life. Apart from the false testimonies we have mentioned above, we often hear about the amazing crisis which happens far away and waits for our salvation. However, we may have ignored people in need of help around us. The goal of such news is to transfer believers' boring nerves and give them a sense of satisfactory. After all, no pastor wants his believers to leave the church.
Believers of traditional churches only care about how to be saved by God instead of Jesus's words. In those false testimonies, they are regarded as great prophets. They have never thought of Jesus' teachings. Everyone tries to save the world. However, they just nail Jesus on the cross in the end.
