In our generation today, many false religions have risen up, and God foresaw the present religious condition of the world; and He knew that He had to guide us well.
Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and all the other patriarchs in the Bible did not have the written Word of God. They knew the Almighty by divine revelation and constant communion. They didn't need the things of God written down because what they had was enough, and even what they passed on to their children through word of mouth was enough. Why? It was not as complicated to pass down information in the past as compared to how it is today.
In the days of old, people lived by clans and they usually occupied an entire region. Travel would take days and so, the revelations handed down by God to His people were kept concentrated on His chosen ones. The people were able to protect it well because they did not have the internet to distract them. They did not have innumerable websites offering ideas about God beyond number. There were no libraries for them to get a second opinion on, and generally, the conditions that the people were in in the past were safer as compared to ours today.
If God had relied on the human tongue to pass down His Word, a very high possibility would have lied for it to become corrupted. And so, a written record: The Holy Bible.
Distractions are everywhere. Lies have cozied up themselves in today's modern world. Really, unless we have a basis for the truth, it would be far too easy to be swept away by the false doctrines and false gods that have riddled the world today.
In John 14:6 Jesus says that "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." And if we read the first chapter of the gospel according to John, we'll know that Jesus and the Word is One. The words that are written in the Bible is Jesus Himself. Furthermore, Jesus says that, "No one can come to the Father except through me." This means that the only way to God is through the Bible. It is our sure way to know who God is. In this world that is full of uncertainty, our only security is in the Bible.
The Holy Bible is the way to God. It is the truth that sets us free. In it are the words that lead to everlasting life. We need it because in a world full of lies, it is the only truth that we can depend on.
Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble. Psalm 119:165ESV
The law is another term for the Word of God. In essence, Psalm 119:165 is saying that if you don't want to stumble, the great peace that comes from knowing the Word is what you need. It is a promise. Like I have already mentioned, our only security is in the Bible.
