Last Wednesday, I attended the 19th annual Sunday School Teacher's Camp in my country entitled: Continuing for the Baptist Faith.
The theme says it all and to be honest, it doesn't apply only to baptists but also, to my fellow Christian Sunday School teachers out there.
In the camp, we tackled a lot of things especially, how we teachers make a difference in the lives of our students.
For starters, as Sunday school teachers, we become the third parents of our students. Aside from their parents, and their pastor, we become someone who makes an influence in their life.
However, nowadays, it gets so difficult to just continue serving without getting side-tracked by the world. We get so busy doing our secular work that we forget that we are also Sunday School Teachers.
How do we inspire students?
We inspire our students by the way we talk, the way we teach the gospel and the way we live our lives. Our students are mainly kids and teenagers who are searching for someone whom they can depend on, they are in a generation where "inspiration" and "envy" always come into play.
The world became a strange place to live in and social media became a one eyed monster that can either make you or break you.
Our students need love and sometimes, the tough kind of love. There are different ways of dealing each student; but, we must always remember that our students will not be children or teenagers forever.
We should expect great things from them because they are capable of doing marvelous things.
Nurture them and be someone whom they can rely on.
So, how do we inspire the youth?
First, we inspire them by living godly lives. We are made in the image of the Lord but we are not perfect, we make mistakes, we feel week and we sometimes do things that are not glorifying God; but as Sunday school teachers, we should learn to be an example to our students.
Inspire them in positive ways that doesn't only involve the use of social media. We should inspire them to walk their faith and to trust God more each day.
How do we stand the faith?
In the camp, one speaker told in a group session that for us to be able to stand out faith, we must never be lazy.
There are times when being lazy becomes an option but let us remember the David once became a lazy person and it did not end well.
For example, being lazy is the act of disobedience.
How? Because God doesn't want lazy servants, He wants us to be available and diligent not lazy. By being lazy, we commit sin and by being lazy, we became people who only does work when he feels like it.
However, there is a counter attack whenever being lazy strikes you.
1. Have your daily devotion/QT with God
If we pray and have our quiet time with God early in the morning, we are starting our day right. Make it a habit to pray first before reaching for your phone. By praying, we communicate with God making it easier to know His will in our lives.
2. Involve yourself to soul-winning
As Sunday school teachers, we must not only share the gospel within the four corners of the church, but also outside. We must never be ashamed to tell the word of God.
3. Don't make excuses
Nowadays, we often make excuses to serve God, but we must always remember that no matter what, our relationship with God will never weaker however, we must always remember that serving God with gladness in our hearts will have a positive effect in our life. Be inspired and always be a blessing unto others. Let us not allow the devil to penetrate in our lives because one mistake is all it takes for us to have a fall.
