As the new year kicks off, we should reflect on the achievements of the past year and make plans for the coming year.

I received a call from a postgraduate classmate, to whom I previously introduced a job and who has already joined the project after a smooth negotiation with the leader. The call was to express his gratitude because he and his wife had once faced layoffs.

We may experience deep valleys, winds, and rains in the coming year, but we must remain in Him to have hope.

Jesus says, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

From a secular perspective, the burden on Jesus was not light, as he was crucified on the cross. But, in the words of Jesus, "yet not what I will, but what you will." Whatever the burden or yoke, Jesus accepted it peacefully because God was in him.

Our lives will be stronger to bear the yoke of life when we have Jesus and the word of God in our hearts.

There might be dips, unemployment, failure, hesitancy, and helplessness in the year ahead, but we can draw strength from our relationship with God because Jesus, who was once in pain and sorrow like us, has overcome the darkest valley.
