A tulou church, an enclosed and fortified earth building in Fujian Province, is to be completed, with believers worshipping inside now.
As a key project of adhering to the principle of developing religion in the Chinese context, the church in Hukeng Town, Yongding County, Longyan, Fujian, is now in the interior decoration phase, with the foundation stone laid on December 31, 2020.
Having been eroded by wind and rain for many years, the original church had great potential safety hazards. With the support of the local government, churches, and believers at home and abroad, the church has been built into a new bright spot in the hometown of tulou, the Hakka ("Guest People") earthen castles, integrating Chinese elements and reflecting China's characteristics and style.
Integrating multiple functions, the church covers a floor area of 2651.5 square meters (0.65 acres), and costs nine million yuan, replacing the present crowded and dilapidated church.
