World Economic Forum began its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Chinese Christian actress Yao Chen won the 22nd Annual Crystal award with actor Leonardo DiCaprio, artist Olafur Eliasson, and musician Will.I.Am.
Yao Chen is a beloved Chinese actress, known as the "Queen of Weibo" for having the most followers on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter (78 million). She has used her high profile to influence the public on a range of issues, including environmental pollution and food safety. Net Ease reports as an Chinese ambassador of UN refugee agency, Yao Chen has visited the refugees camps of Philippines, Thailand, Ethiopia, Lebanon and Pakistan over the latest six years and shared her visits through Chinese social media platform, raising Chinese awareness of the global refugees.
Well known on the TV scree, Yao is best known for her role as the UNHCR's honorary patron for ChinaChen says: "helping others also fulfils the needs of the helper. We can only survive by needing and depending on each other".
In her eyes, visiting refugees is a greeting between individuals. She says, "Refugees are a group consisting of individuals. I'm also an individual so visiting refugees every year is a greeting between individuals."
"I hope there is no refugee. Refugee means some place in the world is at war. I hope all people in their nations live happy life even some day I don't need to do this job in the future." Says Yao.
It is said that this is the second time when she is invited to join in Davos Forum. In the summer, 2014, as a "cultural leader", she was invited to attend a session titled An Insight, An Idea and shared her philanthropy and microblog journey.
