The Lunar New Year marks the beginning of travel plans in China, as millions of people board different transport mediums to celebrate the country’s most important holiday with family and friends.
However, if the weather turns bad, the journey can be quite a nightmare as huge crowds can be stuck at different locations waiting to get home.
For 2016, the weeklong holiday of Lunar Year Migration starts on Sunday, and with the Snowfall in Central China has led to having a bad start for the travelling period.
In Guangzhou, 10000 people gathered around the main station on Monday due to rail service delays caused by the weather, according to Oeee, a Southern Metropolis Daily.
Additionally, on Tuesday morning, 22 trains were delayed due to weather conditions according to a report from Guangzhou Railway Corporation.
Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong, is China’s most populated province and hosts the largest number of migratory workers of the country, and thus, the poor weather conditions have been felt most in this part of the country.
Although the conditions are drastic, yet they have not reached the state of 2008, in which the accidents due to snowfall killed at least 24 people across the country and almost 8 lakh people waited in rain outside the Guangzhou station.
Thus, hopes are rife in the air that although the weather conditions are drastic, yet travel will be possible, and everyone will be able to join their family for the Lunar New Year celebrations throughout the country.
