"Religious philanthropy" is firstly mentioned in the the work report of 2016 CPPCC National Committee's Standing Committee.
On March 3, 2016, Chairman Yu Zhengsheng of CPPCC, delivers a report on the work of the CPPCC National Committee's Standing Committee at the fourth session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China.
Seven changes in religions are mentioned in the report. The report mentions "religions" sixteen times, six more times than last year, according to Takungpao.com. The one major change is that the report mentioned the "China Community on Religions and Peace" three times, once more than 2015. It also mentions that "In commemoration of 70TH Anniversary of Victory of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression And the Global War against Fascism, such as...events for the China Community on Religions and Peace to pray for peace."
Another big change is that it presented that "Actively work to guide religions adapting to the socialist society, make suggestions and proposals on the implementation of the Regulations on Religious Affairs, policies on real estate property held by religious groups and the development of philanthropy work by religious communities." This is the first time of proposing the concept of "religious philanthropy" in the report.
Takungpao.com states that this not only affirms the activities like "Religious Charity Week", charity events, fundraising, poverty aid carried out by the religious circle, but also affirms the material and mental benefits brought by legal "charity" and ''praying" events.
