With a 20-minute Facebook Live session, the famous singer Lady Gaga met the Tibetan spiritual leader on Sunday, causing Chinese fans to react negatively.
Lady Gaga is one of the most famous Western musicians in China, however, it is unclear if the singer will be allowed to perform in the country after meeting with Dalai Lama.
China sees Dalai Lama as major cause for Tibetan separatism. The Dalai Lama said that he is now advocating middle way to China, noting that he wanted an autonomy for Tibet but not independence.
BBC reported that although there are few Chinese fans who supported the famous singer Lady Gaga regarding her meeting with the Dalai Lama, this occurrence was censored in China.
Other fans has called the singer ignorant and stupid for not being politically sensitive to her fans in China. One commented that she needs to give up Chinese market.
Another fan defended the singer saying that Lady Gaga should not be ashamed to go over the Chinese firewall and that fans still said that people should respect Gaga's choices.
This is not the first time that a Western artist has been condemned by Chinese people because of connection to the Tibetan leader. It was Selena Gomez who need to cancel her August 2016 tour dates in Shanghai and Guangzhou after she posted a photo with Dalai Lama.
Bon Jovi cancelled his gigs too because he reportedly featured Dalai Lama in his previous performances.
