With poverty being one of the problems in the country, the Chinese government will be setting up an award for those who will assist in poverty alleviation efforts.

In the announcement made on Wednesday by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, the government will officially recognize those who assist in poverty alleviation work. Deputy head of the office Zheng Wenkai said "The poverty alleviation prizes are comprised of awards for endeavor, contribution, dedication and innovation. Each award will be held by no more than 10 people at any time."

The prizes will be given once a year until 2020.

According to records, at least 70 million Chinese people are noted to be living below the poverty line last year with many living in harsh living conditions and without access to roads, water and electricity.

Trying to get these people out of poverty by 2020 will be difficult especially for China's vision of creating a moderately prosperous society in all respects as noted in the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council key poverty alleviation report released last December.
