In order to improve the quality of technical personnel and speed up development for service of handicap assistive devices, the "WHO Intermediate Wheelchair Service Assembly Engineer Training" was co-hosted by the Amity Foundation and Joni and Friends on June 3-7, 2017. It was organized by the Reed's Family of Zhenjiang, in Xuande Church, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. Over 20 people attended the training.

This is the first training of its kind in accordance with the WHO standard in mainland China.

The training included more than just basic skills. It focused on how to provide holistic care, including for physical recovery, mental health, social support, and spiritual growth. It stressed that the starting point is respect toward people and sincere love.

"We provide not only a wheelchair, but hope. Handicapped people can increase their mobility and fit into society with the help of appropriate wheelchairs. In the meantime, they can truly feel the care from society through the humble and sincere service," said a volunteer.

The trainees took written exams on basic knowledge of wheelchairs, wheelchair servicing, and took a practical during the training. Those who qualified received certificates issued by the Amity Foundation and Joni and Friends.

Trainees in Zhenjiang and Huai-an participated in distributing 210 and 140 wheelchairs respectively on June 8-10.
