People have become more health conscious over time.  Nowadays, people are interested in trending diets like intermittent fasting and the ketogenic diet.

Fasting and ketosis are known to have helped our ancestors survive. These methods helped the ancient people to survive and resist starvation. And nowadays, they are becoming popular in keeping current and future generations physically and mentally healthy and disease-free.

Systematized food deprivation

Intermittent fasting or IF is one of the most popular diets being shared and tried these days. This diet requires the person to eat in a particular period of time and then abstain from eating for another extended time periods.

IF has six types:

1. 16/8 method: fast for 14-16 hours a day and eat only during the 8 hours remaining.

2. 2:5 IF: dieter will not eat for two days (24 hours/ day) and eat for the rest of the remaining days of the week.

3. the Warrior diet: not eating during the day, eating only at night.

4. Alternate-day fasting: not eating 24 hours every other day.

5. Eat-Stop-Eat: fast for 24 hours once or twice a week.

6. Meal skipping: skip eating your meals whenever you don't feel to eat or you are just busy.

To summarize, IF is more on changing the eating patterns rather than reducing the calorie intake. According to scientists, IF can be beneficial if done right. It has proven safe and considered as a natural method to lose weight. Moreover, it reduces insulin resistance, protects the brain from cognitive diseases and a key to a healthier and longer life.

Fats can do so much for you

Ketogenic diet or keto is a method of getting your body into a state of ketosis, where it burns the fat and converts it to energy. People doing this diet shift their calorie intake to eating foods with moderate protein, very low carbohydrates and high fat. This will help the body stop burning glucose for energy, instead it uses fats and begins burning ketones.

Dieters do not need to fast in order to boost their ketone levels. Eating more fatty foods and cutting back on carbs will help not only lose weight but it also helps in decreasing blood pressure and hormonal activity for aging and diseases.

Which diet is ideal for you?

Although both diet methods have its advantages, experts' advice say that before trying out a new diet, it is better to consult your doctor. Moreover, nothing beats the best diet approach when it comes to losing weight: eating the right kind of food, exercising and sleeping well.
